Yonsei University Moves Toward Smart Campus with a Juniper Wired/Wireless Network

Yonsei University, one of Korea’s leading private universities with a large, multi‑building Sinchon campus and 30,000 students, was operating on an outdated Ethernet network from 2004. The aging infrastructure caused system failures and traffic bottlenecks that limited support for mobile learning, global collaboration and large‑scale research, prompting a campus‑wide network modernization.

Yonsei partnered with Juniper to deploy EX9208 and EX4600 switches and 120 high‑performance switches in the first phase, implementing 40 Gbps and 10 Gbps backbones, simplifying the network from three layers to two and using Virtual Chassis to streamline management. The upgrade eliminated bottlenecks, boosted building bandwidth to 10/40 Gbps, enabled high‑definition media processing and scalable growth toward 100 Gbps, and delivered improved stability, security and operational efficiency.
