A Juniper Networks Case Study
The University of Arkansas, together with the Arkansas Research and Education Optical Network (ARE-ON), needed to rapidly upgrade campus connectivity after receiving an NSF grant to support high‑bandwidth research and everyday campus needs. Researchers required the latest networking technology and faster collaboration tools, so the university and ARE‑ON faced a tight timeline to move from 10GbE to 100GbE.
Engineers upgraded existing Juniper MX960 and MX480 3D Universal Edge Routers by replacing switch control boards and line cards, bringing the network to 100GbE the same day. The upgrade delivered the fastest Internet in Arkansas, protected a six‑year infrastructure investment, and enabled advanced research and collaboration across the university.
