Shutterstock Keeps Pictures Moving with MetaFabric Architecture for its Private Cloud Data Center Expansion

Shutterstock, a fast-growing visual media marketplace handling millions of images, videos, and music files and ingesting about 2.5 TB of new content daily, needed to re-architect and expand its data centers to keep pace with explosive demand. The company wanted a private/cloud-hybrid architecture that would scale massively, support DevOps workflows, and free developers from network constraints while avoiding increased operational overhead.

Shutterstock implemented Juniper’s MetaFabric architecture—powered by Junos OS and platforms including MX240 routers, SRX3600 gateways, and EX4550/EX4200 switches with Virtual Chassis—to deliver an open, programmable, and automated network. The new design enabled rapid development, testing, and deployment, supported exponential business growth and hybrid cloud use, and reduced operational complexity so much that dedicated full-time network administrators were no longer required.
