A Juniper Networks Case Study
Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, a provincial vocational college with about 20,000 students and 1,070 staff, faced an aging campus network that couldn’t scale to support a mobile-first smart campus. Its legacy 802.1x agent-based authentication caused vendor lock-in, offered no mobile-agent option, and imposed heavy configuration and maintenance overhead on the Network Information Center.
Working with Juniper and partner Srun, SXPI deployed Juniper MX960 routers as a broadband network gateway (BNG) plus EX4550 and EX2200 switches and RADIUS/AAA for standards-based authentication. The new design eliminated endpoint agents, enabled seamless mobile access for more than 21,000 users, streamlined administration with Junos OS, lowered operating costs, removed aggregation layers to cut latency and complexity, and provided the scalability needed to support future smart-campus applications.
