Roskilde Festival Introduces State-of-the-Art Network for a Digital Generation of Festival Goers

Roskilde Festival, one of Europe’s largest music and culture events with ~100,000 attendees (average age 23), needed to replace an expensive, underperforming temporary network that couldn’t meet growing demands for web access, streaming, payment systems, surveillance, and on-site IT services. Organizers sought a permanent, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure able to support simultaneous web access for ~20,000 guests and carry rich streaming content.

Technology partner IPnett recommended Juniper, and the festival deployed a 10 km fiber backbone plus MX routers, EX switches, SRX gateways and Junos OS with MPLS/VPLS. The upgrade delivered a tenfold capacity increase, powered 200+ wireless hotspots, enabled large-scale content streaming and improved network security and scalability — all at a competitive price.
