A Juniper Networks Case Study
Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) is Poland’s research and education network hub, operating the national PIONIER backbone and metropolitan area networks across 21 cities. Facing aging equipment that limited bandwidth and international collaboration, PSNC needed to modernize its infrastructure to deliver “broadband to all,” support EU research initiatives, and enable advanced applications like live 4K/3D surgical streaming to improve research effectiveness.
After rigorous testing of three vendors, PSNC chose Juniper’s MX Series routers, Junos OS, and Junos Space to build an MPLS-based platform. The deployment delivered a scalable, reliable backbone (21,000 1 GbE ports, 4,000 10 GbE ports and 100 Gb capability), enabled bandwidth- and applications-on-demand, multicast/IPv6 services, and new offerings such as dynamic virtual connections and high‑quality live multimedia—future-proofing Poland’s research network.
