Packet Launches Innovative Bare-Metal Cloud Services with Juniper at the Core

Packet, founded to deliver high-performance bare‑metal cloud services, targets developers, service providers, and businesses that need the speed and control of physical servers without noisy neighbors. The company’s challenge was to combine cloud‑style agility and automation with dedicated hardware—supporting containerized workloads, carrier‑grade Layer 3 features (including MPLS to top‑of‑rack), and a fast time‑to‑market—while avoiding the congestion and performance limits of virtual overlays.

Packet built a Juniper‑based fabric using MX960 core routers, QFX5100 10GbE ToR switches and EX4300 1GbE ToR switches, running Junos with Virtual Chassis, sFlow analytics and a NETCONF‑driven automation tool. The result: five‑minute bare‑metal provisioning, virtual private cloud and MPLS/L3 VPN services, consistent per‑customer throughput with no congestion, high availability and hitless maintenance, and rapid scale‑out across new data centers.
