National Education and Research IT Provider Transforms Its Core Network for Massive Data Growth

CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd. (CSC) is Finland’s state-owned provider of national research and education IT infrastructure, operating the Funet network for roughly 75 organizations and 370,000 users. Facing rapidly growing traffic and the need to support sudden, very large data transfers, CSC needed to upgrade its core backbone from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps while keeping the solution flexible and cost-effective.

CSC upgraded its core with Juniper MX960 routers and MPC4E line cards (delivered by partner Cygate), enabling native 100 Gbps capacity, IPv4/IPv6 and MPLS-based services, and a single OS across core and CPE. The deployment simplified operations, protected prior investments (allowing reuse of 10 Gbps cards), and delivered the scale and agility to meet peak customer demands while keeping costs and operational overhead lower.
