Juniper Technology Powers Irish University’s New Campus and Data Center Network

Maynooth University, a growing research and teaching institution in Ireland with over 9,000 students, needed to expand its campus network as new buildings and increased BYOD/Office 365 usage drove unpredictable traffic and demand for 10GbE+ capacity. The university also required a resilient, scalable data center network with 40GbE connectivity across two sites for disaster recovery and secure access to outsourced Finance and HR systems.

Maynooth implemented a Juniper-based solution—SRX Series firewalls, QFX5100 core switches, EX4300 Virtual Chassis access switches and Junos Space management—delivered with partner Agile Networks, moving to a Layer 3 routed campus and secure VPNs to outsourced centers. The result was significantly higher throughput and lower latency (enabling multi‑terabyte research transfers), reclaimed rack space and reduced power use, full redundancy, simpler operations and a platform that easily scales for future growth.
