Irish Data Center Provider Builds on Its Open Standards-Based Infrastructure to Provide LowLatency Services

Cork Internet Exchange (CIX) is a regional data center provider in Cork, Ireland, offering colocation, managed services and cloud solutions with ultra-low latency to North America and London. Facing growing international demand and a shift from pure colocation to managed and cloud services, CIX needed to scale capacity, simplify a complex operational environment, and adopt an open standards-based networking platform to support new services like OpenStack-based cloud and higher service levels.

CIX deployed a Juniper-based infrastructure—EX4200/EX4550 and EX9208 Ethernet switches plus MX80 and MX480 edge routers—using Virtual Chassis and the Junos OS to create a consistent, SDN-ready network. The upgrade delivered greater resiliency and scalability, simplified operations and configuration, and enabled rapid customer growth and international expansion while providing a foundation for self-service provisioning, automation (VXLAN/Contrail) and continued low-latency service delivery.
