Internap Increases Service Velocity and Scalability While Lowering Cost with Juniper at the Edge

Internap, a global provider of high‑performance cloud, hosting, colocation and network services, faced rapid network growth that outstripped its routing hardware and drove up operational and site‑build costs. The company needed greater CPU and routing capacity, a future‑proof platform with feature parity for new services, and the ability to automate and scale deployments quickly without increasing power, space or management overhead.

Internap deployed a Juniper edge architecture—MX960 routers as market hubs with EX4200/EX4550 switches at the spokes and plans to adopt QFX5100 and Junos Fusion—bringing SDN readiness and centralized management. The result: faster service velocity and new revenue opportunities (40/100 Gb, VPLS/EVPN, virtual CPE), a smaller physical footprint and up to one‑third lower extension site power/space OPEX, simplified operations through automation, and a scalable, future‑proof platform.
