Iceland’s VMware Provider Delivers the Country’s First Software Defined IT Infrastructure

Nýherji, one of Iceland’s largest IT providers and the country’s leading VMware partner serving over 1,000 clients, needed a modern, open network to keep pace with business growth, enable software-defined networking (SDN), and integrate tightly with VMware NSX. The company wanted a reference architecture that would allow automated, faster provisioning for customers, lower operational costs, and maintain its position as Iceland’s “cloud connector.”

After an RFQ process Nýherji implemented a Juniper MetaFabric solution using MX104 and MX240 edge routers and QFX5100 switches, running 10GbE and Junos OS. The deployment delivered SDN-ready, open integration with VMware, simplified operations via Virtual Chassis and unified OS management, faster customer provisioning (minutes instead of hours), reduced TCO and power use, and a high-density platform Nýherji can now show as a reference for its customers.
