A Juniper Networks Case Study
The Joint Universities Computer Centre (JUCC), a consortium of Hong Kong’s public and regional universities, needed to enable researchers to move and analyze massive, often petabyte-scale datasets with peers around the world. With space and power at a premium in Hong Kong, the challenge was to provide high-speed, reliable research-and-education (R&E) connectivity that would support global collaboration without excessive footprint or energy use.
JUCC deployed the Juniper MX10003 5G Universal Routing Platform to build the Hong Kong Open eXchange—an energy‑efficient, high‑density 100 Gbps exchange hosted in a Tier III+ data center. The exchange now links Hong Kong researchers to institutions in China, the U.S., Europe, Singapore, Japan and beyond, accelerating data-intensive work in fields such as high-energy physics, genomics and public health and enabling access to global high-performance computing resources.
