High-Energy Physicists Collaborate with Ease over Oklahoma Friction Free Network from OneNet and Juniper Networks

OneNet, Oklahoma’s statewide research and education network, needed to enable high‑performance computing and advanced networking services for universities, K–12, healthcare and public agencies. Its Oklahoma Friction Free Network (OFFN) was created to give researchers from OU, OSU, Langston and the Tandy Supercomputing Center low‑latency, 10GbE access to 200 teraflops of compute for projects such as the OCHEP ATLAS collaboration, removing the constraints of a traditional enterprise network.

OneNet built a science DMZ and SDN‑ready OFFN using Juniper MX, QFX, EX, SRX and ACX platforms plus Junos Space and resident engineering to keep research traffic separate and highly performant. The deployment enabled fast, large‑scale data sharing for physicists, expanded advanced services for education, healthcare and public safety, absorbed growing bandwidth demand, and delivered a more agile, centrally managed infrastructure with new capabilities such as MC‑LAG and EVPN and ongoing NFV/SDN exploration.
