German Cloud Provider Automates Infrastructure-as-a service Using Software-Defined Networking

CloudSeeds, a Hamburg-based cloud engineering firm founded in 2013, built the A.C.R.E. platform to deliver turnkey, virtualized IaaS for fast-growing customers who require data sovereignty and rapid scale. To realize this vision it needed a software-defined, open network architecture that could be fully automated, highly scalable and resilient so services could be provisioned quickly and reliably.

CloudSeeds implemented a Juniper-based underlay and SDN overlay—QFX5100 switches, MX80 routers, SRX/vSRX gateways, and Contrail Networking orchestrated with OpenStack and Puppet—to enable zero-touch provisioning and automated service delivery. The result: new services brought up in minutes instead of weeks, elimination of traditional Layer 2 issues, seamless in-service upgrades, stronger visibility and resilience, and lower operational costs with a platform primed for future scale.
