Georgia Utility Jackson EMC Converges Operational Technology and IT Systems with Juniper MPLS Network

Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (Jackson EMC) is a large rural utility in Northeastern Georgia serving more than 220,000 members and managing hundreds of thousands of metering points and thousands of miles of energized wire. The co-op needed to converge its operational technology (SCADA, AMI/smart meters) and corporate IT onto a single fiber-based backbone while keeping operational traffic isolated and the solution simple enough to deploy and manage with limited staff.

Jackson EMC deployed a carrier-class Juniper IP/MPLS network using MX480 edge routers, SRX300 gateways, and EX Series switches running Junos OS, using Layer 3 VPNs and VPLS to keep OT and IT traffic separate. The result is a flexible, secure, and highly reliable network that supports smart meters, SCADA, voice for field crews, and corporate systems on a shared infrastructure, delivered and operated with a small in‑house team.
