Frederick County Public Schools Fulfill the Promise of Public Education with a Simple, Fast, Reliable Network

Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) is a rapidly growing Maryland district serving more than 42,000 students across 66 school sites. FCPS’ decade‑old network was struggling to support media‑rich digital learning, a BYOD environment and a districtwide push to 1:1 computing with tens of thousands of Chromebooks, and it needed a scalable, easy‑to‑manage foundation that would meet state assessment requirements and last for years.

Working with partner Data Networks and leveraging E‑rate funding, FCPS deployed Juniper solutions—EX Series and QFX5100 switches plus Junos Space Network Director and Virtual Chassis technology—to simplify operations and scale campus and data‑center networks. The new infrastructure supports over 24,000 student devices (8,000 added last year), meets PARCC and other assessment demands, enables seamless data‑center failover and faster backups, and lets a small IT team reliably manage the entire district.
