Finnish ICT Provider Builds an Ultra-Reliable Infrastructure for the Healthcare Market

Istekki, a Finnish ICT provider owned by municipalities and staffed by about 300 professionals, serves the public healthcare sector with mission-critical applications. Facing two aging, incompatible data center architectures, limited routing capacity, high latency, and scaling and management issues, Istekki needed a single, highly reliable and secure platform—including a Tier III data center and an MPLS network—to support 24x7 medical services across Finland.

Istekki selected Juniper’s MetaFabric architecture after validation in a Proof of Concept lab and partnered with local integrator Cygate to deploy MX-series routers, QFX5100 and EX4300 switches and a nationwide MPLS backbone. The consolidated infrastructure delivered significantly higher performance and lower latency, enabled more medical applications (including VoIP and expanded video), ensured continuous 24x7 operation, and provided a future-proof platform for regional expansion and new e‑services.
