Embracing Network Functions Virtualisation Gives U.K. Hosting Provider an Edge Over the Competition

Datanet, a U.K. hosting, connectivity and backup specialist, faced an end-of-life network that could not meet growing demand or security needs. The company needed a future‑proof, highly available platform with a capacity upgrade from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps, better DDoS protection, and virtualised networking to speed service provisioning while saving rack space and power.

Working with partner Infradata, Datanet deployed Juniper MX104 routers, EX4300 switches and vSRX virtual firewalls in a fully redundant design and validated the configuration in a proof‑of‑concept before migration. The virtualised solution enabled instant provisioning, reduced hardware footprint and power use, improved reliability and security, supported customer migration, and drove new business and growth with a clear upgrade path to 100 Gbps.
