A Juniper Networks Case Study
AARNet Pty Ltd, a not‑for‑profit owned by 38 Australian universities and CSIRO, operates Australia’s research and education network serving over one million users. Faced with network traffic more than doubling every two years, growing cloud adoption and increasingly data‑intensive research, AARNet needed far greater backbone capacity, agility for big‑data workflows, and to retain the operational benefits of its Junos-based environment.
To meet those goals AARNet expanded its fiber/DWDM footprint and deployed Juniper MX Series routers, EX switches, Junos OS and Junos Space, enabling native 100Gbps links, MPLS VPNs and an SDN‑ready architecture. The upgrade delivered a 30‑fold capacity boost, lower latency, optimized big‑data transfer services (CloudStor/CloudStor+ and Science DMZs), reliable nationwide, location‑agnostic access and improved resilience and automation for research and education users.
