Allegro Networks Uses MX Series Routers to Offer Automated Self-Service to Its UK-Based Carrier Customers

Allegro Networks, a Manchester-based wholesale carrier, needed a reliable, high-performance, standards-based IP/MPLS network across the UK that would support open, programmable interfaces. Its goal was to enable fully automated, customer-configured services via a web portal/API—eliminating manual operator intervention and delivering SDN-like, near real-time provisioning for carriers and service providers across 30 data centers and 4 Internet exchanges.

Allegro deployed Juniper MX Series routers (MX960 and MX80) in a flat, carrier-grade MPLS design, used transparent pseudowire Ethernet and fast failover, and worked with partner Imtech to validate the solution. The Snap Platform portal exposes APIs for self-service provisioning; services are now delivered end-to-end in about 100 seconds, available across 30 data centers and 4 IXs, and give customers a retail-like ordering experience that speeds time-to-revenue and simplifies service transfers.
