A Juniper Networks Case Study
Alaska Communications delivers a telehealth network across Alaska to overcome extreme distances, lack of roads, limited power and terrestrial broadband, and the resulting delays and high costs of in-person care. Serving hundreds of small, often roadless communities, the company needed a reliable, secure way to give remote patients access to specialists, diagnostics and emergency care.
Using Juniper MX Series routers (MX80/MX5), SRX gateways and Junos-driven IP/MPLS services, Alaska Communications built a private medical network connecting about 25 providers and 100 locations with 99.9999% core uptime. The network cut imaging transfer from hours to minutes, enabled remote ICU triage and school-based psychiatric care, expanded access to advanced and mental healthcare in the bush, and improved outcomes and cost-efficiency for chronic disease treatment.
