Taming DevOps LDAP User Management, Automated

Tamr, a Cambridge-based enterprise data company with about 100 employees, was struggling with centralized user management as its AWS environment and number of servers grew. Its DevOps team had been manually creating and updating LDAP users and access for servers, applications, VPN, and WiFi, which made onboarding slow and repetitive. Tamr turned to JumpCloud’s Directory-as-a-Service to simplify authentication and user provisioning across its infrastructure.

With JumpCloud, Tamr set up a cloud-based directory, synced users from Google Apps, and deployed the JumpCloud agent through Ansible to automatically manage access on servers and other services. The company also connected RADIUS for network access and tied in additional applications quickly. As a result, onboarding time dropped from nearly a week to by lunchtime on day one, ongoing user management fell from hours a week to about five to fifteen minutes, and Tamr said user account administration improved roughly ten-fold.
