Nome Public Schools Saving Time and Money with the Cloud

Nome Public Schools, a K-12 district in Nome, Alaska, needed a more affordable and flexible way to manage user authentication across Mac, Windows, and Chromebook devices after Open Directory became too limited and difficult to maintain. The district also wanted better support for G Suite for Education, LDAP, SAML SSO, and RADIUS, while avoiding the cost and complexity of on-prem Active Directory. JumpCloud was selected as the cloud directory solution to replace and streamline these identity management needs.

With JumpCloud, Nome Public Schools centralized user management, synced accounts with G Suite, provisioned and suspended users more efficiently, and assigned users to specific systems and groups. The district reported that account provisioning for multiple applications dropped from about an hour per user to 20–30 minutes, and time spent on provisioning, deprovisioning, and password resets fell from roughly 600 hours a year to under 100 hours. JumpCloud also reduced infrastructure and maintenance costs versus Active Directory, while giving the IT team more time to focus on classroom technology initiatives.
