How an MSP Uses a Cloud Directory to Manage Remote Users & Devices, Reduce Costs

Matchstick Birmingham, an IT consulting and contracting firm in Birmingham, Alabama, needed a cloud-based, remote-friendly way to manage identity, access, and devices for clients across the U.S. South. Founder Brian Coleman wanted a vendor-agnostic solution that could replace or extend Active Directory, avoid lock-in to Microsoft or Google, and support both Windows and Mac devices for increasingly remote users.

Using JumpCloud’s Directory Platform, Matchstick Birmingham centralized user identity and device management through JumpCloud’s Multi-Tenant Portal, integrating with Macs, Windows devices, productivity suites, cloud apps, and network resources. The team used JumpCloud to provision users remotely, enforce security policies, monitor directory and device health, and support rapid transitions to remote work without requiring VPN access. Coleman said JumpCloud helped him build a successful MSP business, describing it as a “game changer” and saying his dream would not have been possible without it.
