All Information Services - Customer Case Study

All Information Services (AIS), a Chicago-based systems integrator, needed a way to manage access for its Linux and FreeNAS file servers without relying on Microsoft Active Directory or standing up its own OpenLDAP infrastructure. The team wanted a cloud-based directory service that could handle authentication for file server users, keep files available without a VPN, and fit their open-source-first approach.

AIS chose JumpCloud’s Directory-as-a-Service, using its LDAP-as-a-Service capabilities to authenticate users to FreeNAS and Linux systems from the cloud. The solution worked in testing at home and then rolled out successfully for the FreeNAS project, simplifying access management and eliminating the need for a local directory server or Microsoft licensing. Brian Kastor described the result as a “no-brainer,” noting the ease of use and the ability to avoid buying a costly server.
