Scaleway, a leading European cloud service provider and part of the Iliad Group, runs sustainable data centers across France, Poland and the Netherlands and serves customers in 150+ countries. To protect premium resources from fake accounts, credit-card testing, illicit hosting and DDoS while maintaining a seamless onboarding experience, Scaleway needed an automated, internationally compatible KYC solution — manual ID checks were slow, error-prone and struggled with unfamiliar ID formats.
In 2021 Scaleway implemented Jumio’s AI-driven ID and selfie verification via a simple API, leveraging machine learning to validate documents, detect spoofing and provide detailed rejection reasons; Jumio supports 3,500+ ID subtypes. The outcome: fraud and unpaid rates fell by two orders of magnitude year-over-year, manual reviews dropped from 100% to 20%, and onboarding became faster, more scalable and more reliable.
