Case Study: Voxel8 accelerates 3D printing development with Julia Computing

A Julia Computing Case Study

Voxel8 is using Julia for 3D printing

Voxel8 is a 3D printing company working on advanced functional materials for additive manufacturing, including plastic, epoxy, and silicone. Its challenge was to build a highly computationally demanding path-planning and slicing system for multi-material 3D printing while moving quickly enough to respond to customer feedback and evolving product needs. Voxel8 chose Julia Computing’s Julia language for critical mathematical code in its Euclid platform.

Using Julia Computing’s Julia, Voxel8 implemented real-time path planning algorithms in its high-performance multi-material slicer, enabling precise and efficient material placement for next-generation products like antennas, batteries, drones, robotic hands, and electronic components. The company reported that development speed has been “incredible,” allowing it to progress much faster than it could have in C or C++ and to iterate rapidly with a small development team.
