Case Study: Racefox achieves real-time digital sports coaching with Julia Computing

A Julia Computing Case Study

Preview of the Racefox Case Study

Racefox - Customer Case Study

Racefox, a Stockholm-based sports technology company, set out to build real-time digital coaching for athletes by classifying motion data from wearable sensors. As user volume grew, its original C++ and Matlab-based approach became too slow and inflexible for refining the algorithms needed to recognize cross-country skiing movements and subtle technique differences.

Julia Computing provided Julia as the development environment for Racefox’s machine learning and motion-analysis work. Racefox rebuilt its algorithms in Julia in about a week, gaining major speed improvements over Matlab and eliminating the need for a separate production rewrite in C++. Using Julia for experimentation, cloud analysis, and API-based services, Racefox was able to iterate quickly, translate algorithms to mobile, and scale its product successfully—helping the company earn repeated recognition as one of Sweden’s most innovative companies and a featured European startup.
