Case Study: Fugro Roames protects Queensland's electrical grid with Julia Computing

A Julia Computing Case Study

Fugro Roames makes grid inspections 100x faster with Julia Computing

fugro roames needed to protect the electrical grid across a massive area of Queensland, Australia, a laborious task that previously required thousands of man-hours of manual inspection. Julia Computing provided a solution using the Julia programming language to help them efficiently identify threats to their vast network of power lines and poles.

The solution implemented by Julia Computing allowed fugro roames to use LiDAR and aerial photography to create detailed 3D maps and apply machine learning to identify network failures and risks. This resulted in a dramatic performance improvement, including a 100x speedup when rewriting a key sensor fusion code from Matlab to Julia, enabling them to identify failures on the same day images are captured.
