Runtriz, a Los Angeles–based provider of cloud-based mobile ordering and workflow solutions for hotels and casinos, outgrew its original cloud host as its “Casino by Runtriz” platform expanded into higher-volume venues. The company needed a more elastic, high-performance IaaS after a costly outage and limitations from traditional hardware-virtualized Linux environments; its priorities were better performance without a painful OS migration, developer-friendly tools, and a cost-effective way to scale.

Runtriz migrated to Joyent’s SmartOS-based public cloud, completing roughly 90% of the move in a couple of weeks using Joyent templates. The switch delivered near–bare-metal performance, built-in bursting for traffic spikes, Node.js and other developer tools, and advanced load‑balancing via Stingray—resulting in improved uptime and performance, lower marginal costs as usage grew, and faster developer productivity and confidence in the platform.
