From Zero Phone Numbers to 60% Opt-In AAN Conference Success

The Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN) needed a reliable way to keep 142 conference attendees informed in real time during a multi-day event, but they had not collected phone numbers during registration. To solve this communications gap, AAN turned to Subtext for an SMS-based attendee messaging channel.

Subtext helped AAN drive opt-ins through pre-event newsletters, attendee emails, and an on-site QR code poster, then used text messaging for schedule updates, reminders, and sponsor promotions throughout the conference. The results were strong: 83 attendees opted in, nearly 60% of total attendance, 19 texts were sent, and churn was just 1%, showing that Subtext effectively improved event communication while also adding value for sponsors.
