Case Study: UCSF Health accelerates its first mass timber project with Join

A Join Case Study

UCSF Health builds its first 30,000 SF mass timber project with Join

UCSF Health faced significant challenges in building its first mass timber project, the Administrative Support Building for the Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. The project began with an undefined program, evolving design criteria, and unique schedule constraints, all of which threatened the budget and timeline. The vendor, Join, provided its preconstruction software to help the team navigate these complexities.

The XL Construction team used Join’s software to facilitate early collaboration and align all stakeholders. They leveraged the platform's Scenarios feature to quickly evaluate and make informed decisions on structural systems, cost, schedule, and design, ultimately solidifying the choice for mass timber. This process resulted in a successful project delivered on budget, expanded XL's mass timber portfolio, and provided UCSF Health with an outstanding building for its staff. Join was instrumental in creating a transparent, efficient, and collaborative process.
