Westchester County Department of Corrections - Customer Case Study

Westchester County Department of Corrections in Valhalla, New York, needed to replace an outdated, proprietary security system that was unreliable, hard to maintain, and limited the facility to one vendor’s equipment. The existing access control problems left door readers and cards failing across the department’s four buildings, creating major security and operational challenges. Johnson Controls provided the security technologies used in the upgrade, including Software House access control products and American Dynamics video systems.

Johnson Controls helped implement a fully integrated solution centered on Software House C•CURE 800 access control, card readers, Intellex digital video recorders, and American Dynamics cameras and matrix switching. The new system tied nearly 200 card readers and more than 200 cameras into four facilities, enabling remote door control, event-to-video correlation, intercom-triggered camera views, and better monitoring of inmate and staff movement. The result was a more reliable, cost-effective system that improved day-to-day operations, reduced false calls, supported 850 officers and supervisors, and allowed the department to manage access and emergencies from headquarters or remotely.
