Tyco Integrated Fire & Security safeguards RWE’s new power plant in Neurath from fire

RWE Group, one of Europe’s largest power producers, needed robust fire protection for its new lignite-fuelled power plant in Neurath, Germany, where stringent safety and operational requirements demanded protection for transformers, cable routes, coal conveyor belts, and other critical infrastructure. Johnson Controls, through Tyco Integrated Fire & Security, was selected to help safeguard the site with stationary fire extinguishing systems and related fire protection services.

Johnson Controls implemented a large-scale, VdS-compliant fire protection solution that included 130 valve stations, 50 motor damper blades, 10,000 extinguishing nozzles, and 67 km of pipeline, along with a hydrant system for the entire plant. The installation also used MicroDrop® technology for cable trays, reducing contaminated extinguishing water while effectively suppressing cable fires. The project was completed in mid-2010, and RWE chose Johnson Controls for its industry expertise, proven collaboration, and cost-effective, environmentally responsible fire protection solutions.
