A Johnson Controls Case Study
Tulane University, a major research institution and one of New Orleans’ largest private employers, faced an urgent challenge after Hurricane Katrina devastated its uptown and downtown campuses. To reopen quickly and support the city’s recovery, Tulane partnered with Johnson Controls on a large-scale campus restoration and energy modernization effort, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy systems work.
Johnson Controls restored critical campus infrastructure, expanded Tulane’s central plant, upgraded HVAC and lighting systems, and implemented water and energy conservation measures through performance contracts. The projects are expected to deliver more than $34 million and $37 million in savings, cut annual utility costs by millions, reduce natural gas use by over 2 million therms, save 20 million gallons of water annually, and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 119,000 tons each year.
