A Johnson Controls Case Study
Translink, Northern Ireland’s public transport provider, needed a secure, easy-to-manage access control solution for its new £11.4 million Belfast train cleaning facility at Fortwilliam. The site had to protect expensive train wash equipment, workshop areas, offices, driver facilities, and restricted entry points while supporting 24/7 operations and temporary access for contractors. Vendor Johnson Controls, through CEM’s webEntry system, was selected to meet these needs.
Johnson Controls implemented CEM webEntry with Door Control Modules and HID proximity card readers to control doors, shutters, and gates across the facility. The system enabled real-time monitoring, remote “Oneshot” gate opening for approved visitors, and time-zone based access for shift workers, while also allowing expansion to additional entry points in the future. As a result, Translink secured the site and streamlined daily operations, and the train cleaning facility has been fully operational since autumn 2005.
