A Johnson Controls Case Study
St. Joseph’s Health Care London, one of Ontario’s leading teaching hospitals, needed to modernize an aging analog surveillance system across its four-site, 3-million-square-foot health care network. The hospital wanted faster access to video, clearer images, more than six cameras visible at once in the control center, and better support for its varied security needs, from mental health facilities to parking areas. Johnson Controls provided the solution through its American Dynamics video management platform, including VideoEdge and victor, along with Illustra IP cameras.
Johnson Controls implemented an IP-based, unified video security system that integrated new HD cameras with existing analog equipment, enabling real-time viewing, immediate playback, and easier export of still images such as faces and license plates. The new system increased control-center visibility from 6 to 32 cameras per screen and added analytics for counting people, monitoring restricted areas, and sharing live video across sites. St. Joseph’s reported faster response times, smoother tracking of incidents, and better image quality, helping the organization move steadily toward a fully digital surveillance environment.
