SFP Fire & Security Integrators (Pty) Ltd supported Discovery Financial Services in equipping its new purpose-built Johannesburg head office data centre with a fire protection solution that would meet high operational and environmental standards. The key challenge was protecting the 700 sq.m data centre and its hard disk drives from the risks associated with inert fire suppression discharge, including harmful vibrations and noise.

Johnson Controls supplied the iFLOW Fire Suppression System together with its Acoustic Nozzle Solution to address the issue. Using an acoustic nozzle and calculation tool, SFP’s technical team could tailor the design to keep sound pressure levels at HDD locations within acceptable limits, helping Discovery reduce the risk of data loss and achieve a first-of-its-kind installation in the South African market.
