Case Study: Manchester City Council protects heritage buildings with Johnson Controls fire detection and gas suppression

A Johnson Controls Case Study

Preview of the Manchester City Council Case Study

Manchester City Council - Customer Case Study

Manchester City Council needed to refurbish the interiors of the Central Library and Town Hall Extension while protecting the heritage character of these Grade II* listed buildings. Johnson Controls, then operating under the Tyco brand, was brought in to provide a discreet fire protection solution, including a digital fire detection and alarm system and INERGEN® gas suppression.

Johnson Controls installed MX panels using Generation 6 digital technology, combining hardwired and radio-based systems where needed to avoid damaging ornate walls and high domed ceilings. The INERGEN® system protected book rooms and archive stores, and the project was completed on time and on budget for the buildings’ openings in July 2013 and March 2014. Johnson Controls was also awarded the maintenance contract for the site.
