A Johnson Controls Case Study
Cogent Communications, a multinational ISP expanding its European footprint, needed to open a new Amsterdam data centre quickly after acquiring a facility that already had some security and technical infrastructure in place. The challenge was to upgrade and standardise the site’s physical security systems to match Cogent’s high data centre requirements, drawing on its existing relationship with Johnson Controls and using access control technology from Software House.
Johnson Controls carried out a detailed inventory of the existing systems and then implemented an integrated security solution that reused as much of the current infrastructure as possible, while adding new intercom, video surveillance, intruder detection, fire alarm integration, and a C•CURE 9000 access control system. The project was completed in just three months, reduced costs through reuse of existing cables and components, and gave Cogent centralised access management from its NOCs in Washington DC, Frankfurt, and Madrid, improving efficiency and supporting standardised operations across its data centres.
