Case Study: Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare advances sustainability and green healthcare with Johnson Controls

A Johnson Controls Case Study

Preview of the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Case Study

Implementing sustainability is part of healthcare system’s continued effort to do what’s right

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, a large Memphis-based healthcare system, wanted to expand its mission of quality care while planning for long-term sustainability across its hospitals and clinics. To help define and embed that strategy, the organization turned to Johnson Controls and its Innovation Services consulting approach, along with technology planning support for a new pediatric medical center.

Johnson Controls led collaborative planning sessions, helped establish a system-wide sustainability framework, and served as the technology contractor and LEED-accredited professional for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. The solution included a converged IT network, integrated operating rooms, and a modular central plant designed for efficiency and future expansion. The effort helped minimize duplication, budget overruns, and delays, supported LEED certification goals, and contributed to major environmental and operational gains, including recycling 50% of demolition waste and building a future-ready facility with lower energy use and greater flexibility.
