A Johnson Controls Case Study
The City of Evansville, Indiana, needed to modernize aging water, sewer, and utility infrastructure without raising taxes or fees. Johnson Controls partnered with the city to deliver an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) that bundled lighting, HVAC, controls, valve automation, methane biogas systems, and automated meter infrastructure (AMI).
Johnson Controls implemented a comprehensive upgrade plan that reduced energy use at the wastewater treatment plant, cut solid waste hauling costs, and improved meter-reading accuracy across 64,000 meters. The project is expected to generate $3.1 million in annual guaranteed savings against a $39 million investment, with a total payback of 20 years, while also producing renewable power from fats, oils, and grease and improving leak detection and revenue capture.
