BAA Heathrow Airport - Customer Case Study

BAA Heathrow Airport, one of the world’s busiest international airports, needed a proven, fully integrated IP security solution for the new Terminal 5 that could both protect critical airport areas and support the efficient flow of millions of passengers each year. Johnson Controls provided the access control technology used for the project, including CEM AC2000 Airport Edition and over 1,100 S600e IP card readers.

Johnson Controls extended Heathrow’s existing AC2000 AE system to secure Terminal 5, integrating access control with CCTV and customizing reader modes and interlocked doors to separate international and domestic passenger flows. The solution secured staff, retailers, and immigration police across 235,000+ cards and helped create a flexible, future-proof security setup for a terminal handling around 30 million passengers annually.
