A Johnson Controls Case Study
Arts Centre Melbourne, Australia’s largest performing arts venue, needed a major upgrade of its chiller and heating hot water systems while keeping the entire facility fully operational throughout the 18-month project. Johnson Controls was appointed to manage the work, which also had to account for shared supply requirements with the National Gallery of Victoria, strict conditions for sensitive artworks, and the challenges of a busy city-centre site.
Johnson Controls delivered a staged retrofit that included removing end-of-life equipment, refurbishing the plant room, installing six YORK YMC2 chillers, natural gas burners, pumps, cooling tower refurbishments, and integrating a CPO 10 Plant Manager with the existing building automation system. The result was a fully operational, more efficient plant delivering minimal disruption and significant energy savings, with the YORK chillers alone reducing energy use by about 1,029,234 kWh between November 2016 and June 2017, or an average 27% reduction.
