Tastykake Improves Forecast Accuracy 47%

Tasty Baking Company, maker of the Tastykake brand, was preparing for a major SAP rollout but had no formal forecasting process, which led to uneven production schedules, overtime costs and inventory spoilage. To meet SAP compatibility, ease of use and industry adoption requirements, Tasty Baking Company selected John Galt Solutions and its ForecastX Wizard forecasting software.

John Galt Solutions implemented ForecastX Wizard (with Forecast Xpert training and later an upgrade to ForecastX Wizard Premium), cutting average forecast error from 15% to 8% — a 47% relative improvement — and enabling a shift to vendor-managed inventory. The solution reduced spoilage and overtime exposure and allowed Tastykake to move forecasting down to the SKU level with multi-level hierarchies and on-the-fly recalculation.
