Smithfield boosts customer service with daily inventory management

Smithfield Foods’ Smithfield Packing Company, a major pork processor with 12 plants and over 2,200 SKUs, faced a cumbersome supply chain planning process that relied on multiple planners pulling data from SAP and spreadsheets. Forecasting was time-consuming and fragmented, making it difficult to allocate inventory, factor promotions, and maintain consistent customer service across its brands and channels. John Galt Solutions implemented its Atlas Planning suite (Atlas) and the Planning Portal, giving ten planners a daily, unified view of orders and inventory and enabling about 20 salespeople to contribute monthly field input. With Atlas, Smithfield now produces more reliable forecasts, optimizes inventory replenishment, manages by exception, and shares plans with key accounts—improving customer service, strengthening relationships, and maximizing return on inventory investment.
