Deschutes Improves Forecasting for New Products and Changing Consumer Preferences

Deschutes Brewery, one of the largest craft breweries in the U.S. based in Bend, Oregon and maker of beers like Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale, struggled to forecast rapidly changing consumer preferences and new product introductions. These forecasting gaps led to both stock-outs and excess finished goods with distributors, harming retailer relationships and sales growth. To address this, Deschutes engaged John Galt Solutions and its Atlas Planning Platform.

John Galt Solutions implemented the Atlas Planning Platform’s demand management engine and cloud-based planning portal to build new-product forecasts by matching comparable items across attributes (product family, beer type, target audience, region) and let the sales team enter and aggregate forecasts directly. The solution improved tracking of KPIs such as forecast accuracy, fill rate, and inventory, resulting in better forecasting, reduced stock-outs and inventory levels, and improved on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction.
