Serapid, a manufacturer of precision movement systems with a U.S. shop in Sterling Heights, Michigan, faced slow, error-prone Bill of Materials (BOM) processing because engineers were translating SolidWorks CAD data into Excel spreadsheets for purchasing. Serapid used JobBOSS enterprise resource planning (ERP) as part of its software suite but initially relied on a third-party CAD BOM importer that failed to integrate with SolidWorks, forcing the company to seek a better solution from its ERP vendor, JobBOSS.

JobBOSS provided its in-house CAD BOM Import (initially in beta) and worked with Serapid to integrate SolidWorks models directly into JobBOSS. The result was seamless data import, fewer handoffs and errors, and faster progression from model to production: small jobs now take about 15 minutes instead of an hour and overall man hours per job have dropped by 20%. JobBOSS’ solution also reduced purchasing time, improved part visibility and customer responsiveness, and simplified Serapid’s workflow.
