Case Study: US Marine Corps saves billions with JMP Pro

A JMP Case Study

US Marines use analytics to save billions

The US Marine Corps needed a better way to forecast equipment losses during combat and update its aging Combat Active Replacement Factors (CARF) system. Working with JMP Pro from JMP, the Marines set out to replace a 15-year-old methodology that lacked trust and relied on incomplete data.

JMP helped the US Marine Corps apply predictive modeling, recursive partitioning, and bootstrap forest analysis to build the CARF Statistical Analysis Tool (CARF-STAT). The new approach created 34,818 CARF values, about three times more than before, and is expected to save the corps up to $2.3 billion in requirement costs by 2017.
